It should run GW, but i dont think it's a very good deal for the price with that processor and the shared graphics memory.

You can get an Inspiron 1520 laptop from Dell with dedicated graphics, and a faster processor for about the same price. Just select the base model from their site and customise it to match the 2048MB RAM. It comes out at around £519.

I'm not saying this is the best deal out there, but it beats Comet's IMO.

Still, that laptop for the same processor speed and amount of RAM will run GW better since it has a dedicated video card and not some crappy integrated graphics solution. The 8400GS isn't the best video card out there, but it's still decent enough for GW. If you can, upgrade to the 8600GT which isn't that great but still better than the 8400GS.

The Sony would run it ok on low-medium. Looking 20ish max FPS.

Ebay has some good deals. Can pick up some £600-700 Dells for £400-500.

Also try the Dell Outlet website. You can get some major bargains from that site.

Yeah, I have a 8600GT in my lappy with a C2D T7100 and 2gb ram, and I can run GW at a smooth 60FPS with the v-sync cap on, bout 80-90 without.

this is at 1280x800 all settings max and 4xAA

One of the amazing features of Guild Wars is how well it will run on computers with fairly low spec graphics cards. My laptop has integrated SiS616 graphics which is rated way below the integrated Intel GMA X3100 on the OP's suggested laptop, and it runs GW beautifully. Dual core 1.46 ghz processor is fine and 2 gigs of ram is massive. That Sony Vaio looks like a pretty good deal actually, but I would have to agree with milkflopance - you'll find you can get more for your money from Dell.

Customise the one in the first column, you get 1.6 that way

EDIT: Remember to check the type of processor too. The one from Comet and this one from Dell are both Intel Dual Core, not the newer Intel Core 2 Duo. Remember that a 1.6 Dual Core is going to be slower than a 1.5 Core 2 Duo.

Absolutely not. Intel integrated graphics chips suck more than badly enough when they have their own memory. Forcing it to siphon system RAM is only going to make it worse. I cannot imagine that this system could run GW well at all, and I cannot possibly recommend that you buy it.

The page says "ATI X2300 512MB HyperMemory". HyperMemory's the term ATI uses for a video card feature that allows the card to use the system's primary RAM instead of having its own. My guess is the "512MB" is the maximum amount of RAM it can reserve from the system.

Generally, any video chip that uses the system RAM instead of having its own high-speed memory is nearly unusable for gaming except at very low resolutions and detail settings. The system bus just doesn't have enough bandwidth for the video hardware to work well.

"more than enough power" can be a bit subjective. can it run GW at playable framerates at it's native resolution? yes, if you can live with medium graphic settings. can it push AAx4 with everything maxed out? definately no.

It will run. Yes, graphics will have to be toned down. AA is a no no. Everything set to med, it will run. Simple as that.

Agreed with Malice. Yeah, it's not a bad solution if you aren't concerned with high fps. But if you want super awesome graphics (as far as GW is concerned), you'll need to spend a little more money.
